When you say the word: SCRAPBOOK it normally divides people into two categories. 1. I LOVE SCRAPBOOKING! or 2. I don't have time to scrapbook...can you relate to one of these two? Me too, both! LOL!
That's why I want to share a secret with you that has changed the way I view scrapbooking. It's called the Power Layout, termed this by Creative Memories TM. I've put my own spin on the PL and I'd like to share my version with you.
Step 1 Print & Put in Order
This may seem obvious to some, but then again, it is a step and it does take time. With the literally hundreds of digital photos to choose from, select your favorites, make copies of them, drop them into a copied file for printing, select an on line printing company, such as Snapfish.com or many others, and then print your photos.
When your photos arrive, take the time to put them in order from oldest on top to most recent on the bottom of the stack. For instance, if the most recent pictures were taken in January, you would put all your January pictures together at the top of your stack, then your February pictures, and ending with December at the bottom of the stack. Also if you are doing multiple albums such as a family album, child album, and grandparent album (this is ambitious I know :), now is not the time to sort into multiples. Sort into months first, then after they are sorted in order of months, then you can more easily divide your multiples.
Step 2 Lay Out Photos
Lay out your photos onto pages the same size you will be scrapbooking into. For my layout, I choose 12x12 sheets of cardboard, but this is not recommended for long term storage since card board contains acid and will ruin your photos. CM does make a PL box for this purpose and you can contact a consultant on line to purchase one if you'd like.
Step 3 Accessorize
For step 3 there will be two steps involved. Make sure you purchase papers, stickers, borders, flowers and accessories to help enhance and tell the story of your pictures. A great place to find unique papers and accessories is Joanns, CTMH constultans, or Stampin UP consulants. Look through your pictures and purchase themes, colors and accessories that will compliment your pictures - don't get hung up on this process.
Once your have your accessories purchased, lay out your papers and accessories that coordinate with your pictures onto your page, sheet, or board. This will give you a visual idea of how your pictures will flow together. You can use as many or as few pictures as you can fit on a page because you will be trimming down some of your photos in a future step, so keep that in mind.
Step 4 Stack Pages
Once you have all your papers and accessories laid out together, but not neatly yet, you will want to stack your pages in order. The way you stack your pages is working with your oldest pictures as page one or the top page, followed by page two, stacking them in order until your most recent pictures will be on the bottom. For example, if each page we scrapbooked represented one month of the year, January would be on top as page one, followed by February, then March, and so on with your last page ending with December.
Step 5 Scrapbook Photos
Once all your pages are stacked, then you can begin the cropping process or what we might call the scrapbooking process. This first process is the most time consuming because it takes time to gather all your supplies, match up colors and accessories together and decide what order everything goes in. During this last step, you will trim off excess white, or border not needed in your photo. Be sure not to trim off anything of historical reference and be sure to leave some background photos and don't crop all photos down to just people. It's fun to look back at the scenery around you too. When you crop, think in terms of size, like 3x3 or 4x4 and how each picture will line up and try to consider if you will be matting photos or not. Be careful, because you can always trim more, but you can't put it back on a photo.
Once you've trimmed your photos and decided on mats for some you can begin to lay out your pages with paper and accessories and really see the story of your photos come alive. But don't think the story can be told there. Be sure to add journaling and details, including dates, references, ages, and even handwriting detail, not just type written. It is all meaningful when it comes to the precious photos.
You will see that once you follow these simple steps, laying out a 30-40 page album this way will take days rather than years! It's all in the organizational process. If you need more help or have questions feel free to e-mail me directly. I don't sell scrapbooking materials or have anything to do with the industry other than I love teaching people how to organize their photos. I can continue these steps with you if you need additional assistance, just e-mail me directly. I do have over a decade of scrabooking experience and more albums scrapped than one family should ... doing it the PL way :)

Foods that make your Joints HAPPY :)
Do you have achy joints? Arthritis? Maybe you just have the occasional dull pain from time to time. There are some natural ways to help us feel better without reaching for a bottle of pain medicine. Please always refer to your doctor for medical conditions and advice before changing anything in your diet or routine.
For normal aches and pains, let me share with you some wonderful foods that have helped my family and friends with aches and pains. Turmeric, Garlic, Ginger, and Cinnamon are all foods that have been known to be anti inflammatories. So when you eat them, they help dull or take away aches and pains.
I have a friend who has arthritis in her hands and each week or two she will slice a nickle sized piece of raw turmeric and eat it whole! Now Turmeric is a bitter root (I tried this myself!) so I would caution you before you try this method. But for her, it takes away that joint pain quickly and lasts for a long time. As you can see, it's a powerful little root with healing properties. So do some research of your own and see what might work for you or your family.
Turmeric can be ground up, minced such as in a garlic clove, or made into powder. You can cook it, saute it, or even eat it raw such as on salads, pastas, on pizza or any way you find enjoyable.
http://seerpress.com/curcumin-in-turmeric-targets-cancer-cells-and-enhances-chemotherapy-treatment/8820/ During my research, I just came upon this article that noted that the curcumin in turmeric helps in fighting cancer. AMAZING! Keep researching and you will learn that eating right keeps us healthier, happier, and able to be better people...we are all treasures on this earth!
Garlic, Ginger and Cinnamon can be eaten the same way as turmeric. Try to think outside the normal preparations of food and find interesting and enjoyable ways to eat your powerful roots! Your joints will thank you...
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Chai-Tea-Mix/Detail.aspx Enjoy this yummy Chai Tea recipe from allrecipes.com. It has both ginger and cinnamon in it. You can modify the recipe to suit your taste and dietary needs or make it "as is" for a creamy treat that's also beneficial for you.

Upcycled Pocket Purses
Upcycling is a new buzz word out there like recycling. It's mearly reusing materials in a recycling way. I've found a way to recycle old jeans and clothes into fun ways through upcycling. I've turned the pockets of jeans into adorable purses for little girls, warn jeans into picnic blankets, and as the ideas come to me, more posts will be listed of new creations.
If you have used jeans or clothing you would like to donate to Mrs. Green Jeans for upcycling, please e-mail me directly for more details.
A portion of the sale of each item donated is given to charity to clothe and feed those in need.
If we all do a little, less will be wasted. Help the environment and upcycle your part.
Thank you,
Mrs. Green Jeans

Not every great outfit has to be rejected just because it doesn't fit. Consider having it custom tailored. My prices are affordable and you will love the difference a little tuck here and there will make you feel about yourself in your clothes.

Wash Wisely, No SLS
Don't you just love a great find! Let me first tell you about some education I learned first.
Recently, I learned there are some negative ingredients in a lot of shampoos, toothpastes, and other bubbly hygiene items. One of those ingredients is SLS or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. To find out more about this ingredient you can click on the this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_lauryl_sulfate and upon doing further research, you will find SLS causes irritation among other negative affects. So I began looking for shampoos and body washes that didn't contain SLS. The prices were astronomical. Why? Because SLS is cheap to use and is an easy way to get rid of oil and grease so they use it in alot of things.
Trader Joe's carries an SLS free set of 3 Shampoo, Conditioner, & Body Wash for the less than $3.00 a 16 oz. bottle. The Face Wash is less than $5.00 for a 6 oz. bottle. Now that's a bargain and SLS free!

Recycle Renew, Reuse = Saved Dollars
Recycle, Renew, Reuse...This has become a catch phrase in the eco-friendly community...
But did you know it's not just a catch phrase, it's also a way for your to save some MONEY! With the economic recession we've faced throughout the US and Canada many of us have had to find ways to cut back, save money and be more resourceful with what we have. Recycling can fit right into that category.
I took on a sewing project a few years back to recycle and accessorize a pair of old jeans. It was what I called a basic 101 sewing task of simply adding leftover material to the bottom of some jeans to help accessorize them and freshen up a wardrobe. Little did I know this sewing project would take on a whole new meaning when it came to being frugal.
People everywhere began to stop and ask me how they too could accessorize their jeans and pants, not just to make them pretty, but how to make their pants look better because of frayed edges, making the length longer, or to change the fashion to coorginate with something they already owned. I didn't realize my attempt at recycling old jeans could become such a fashion trend and be considered "Grean Jeans".
I challenge you to look for other ways you or someone like me (yes, I do sew for a small charge) can help you recycle, renew or reuse something you already have and save you money and our precious resources.
It's easy being green!

Thinking Green
These days people are always "Thinking Green"...trying to find ways to be environmentally friendly. But did you know you can actually SAVE MONEY thinking green? That's right! When you begin a new project, say it be organizing a space, updating an area, or just making a change think about how you can THINK GREEN and SAVE MONEY at the same time.
Look at what you already have and start there. Is there something you can reuse, reconfigure, or adapt to make what you are needing into a workable solution. Take for instance changing the direction or orientation of an object from vertical to horizontal and see if it will work. It sounds so simple, yet it actually could be the best solution for you without having to purchase something new. So before you run out to buy new look at your space with a fresh set of eyes and see if mixing things up could save you some Green.
If that doesn't work try looking at a second hand store or even tag/yard sale. This is another great way to reuse what has already been purchased and make new again. Once again, don't just look at an object for its intended use, look beyond and see if it may have another use for your situation.
Another suggestion is to look on line...try "Google" to save time running around and look for ideas on line. Look for sizes and dimension, colors textures, get ideas, etc. This may be a good step 2 for some of you. Upon finding ideas on line, then you can make a better decision about where to shop for your coveted item.
When you make a purchase think Green. Is this item something that will biodegrade in time such as biodegradable materials? Is it something that you can use for other projects once your use for it is finished? How can you use the waste for another project? Is there excess packaging that will fill up the landfills or can the packaging be made useful?
It isn't that we want to stop consuming new goods, but we do want to consider their impact on our future environment and how it will eventually impact the next generations. It all begins with one person making a difference and then teaching that principle to others. When you believe in making a difference in others lives it's amazing what an impact you can have no matter the suggestion.
So until next time, continue Thinking Green!

Rags to one more Run
Before
After
Trying to be frugal, I thought maybe I could trim out the bottoms with a polly blend fabric and get one more winter Run out of them. This is my attempt at doing “sew” and I think they turned out rather cute, to say the least. Now, don’t look to closely and think they are dirty. They are just “well loved” from the knees down! Believe me, with all the sweating done last winter, they got plenty of washes and then some!
Hope you enjoy my thrifty attempt at trimming out a raggedy old pair of ski pants.
